Teacher of English Language and Literature

Scala Molenwatering is looking for an enthusiastic fully qualified teacher of English (m/f). The vacancy is for a full-time position of about 1,0 fte, as of 1st August 2024.

Together with the four teachers in the English department, you will be responsible for the lessons of Cambridge English in the lower and upper three years of upper general secondary education and pre-university education. The English department works with the teaching methods New Headway and Insight. We are looking for a fully qualified teacher who will be one of the driving forces within the English department. A person with expert knowledge and vision, that keeps the English language and literature programme at its current high level, but also doesn’t shy away from experimenting and renewing the programme. A dynamic personality who does more than teaching alone and who will play an active role in organising and developing extra activities regarding English language and culture and tutoring. In addition, we expect you to contribute to helping, coaching, and guiding our pupils, during the classes but also during coaching moments.

About the school
Scala Molenwatering is a comprehensive school for pre-university education (havo, atheneum and gymnasium (grammar school) in Spijkenisse, on the island of Voorne Putten. Our key values are “providing knowledge and skills at a very high level”, “getting to know yourself in the broadest sense” and “being of importance to others”. Based on these values, we work towards guiding our pupils in the process of becoming responsible adults.
At Scala Molenwatering, we work with a timetable of extended lessons of 80 minutes. This gives us ample time to meet the educational goals, to monitor the learning process of the pupils by means of, for example, formative assessment and by giving constructive feedback.
Every day starts with a coaching moment of 40 minutes in which teachers and pupils have the opportunity to give and receive tailor-made coaching.

Penta is een scholengroep bestaande uit negen scholen voor christelijk voortgezet onderwijs in de omgeving van Voorne Putten. De scholen zijn gevestigd in Spijkenisse, Brielle, Hellevoetsluis, Rotterdam-Hoogvliet en Rotterdam-Rozenburg. Het aanbod van Penta is breed en omvat alle profielen op mavo, havo, atheneum, gymnasium, tweetalig onderwijs (tto) en alle leerwegen van het vmbo inclusief leerwegondersteuning. Daarnaast is er een specifiek aanbod voor leerlingen met meer- en hoogbegaafdheid in de masterclass en de Intermezzogroep. Vanaf 2023 is er een vestiging voor Agora-onderwijs toegevoegd aan onze scholengroep. Met een omvang van bijna 4700 leerlingen en circa vijfhonderdvijftig medewerkers is Penta een grote scholengroep met veel mogelijkheden en diversiteit.

Scholengroep Penta is decentraal georganiseerd. Dit betekent dat er op elk van de negen scholen een kleinschalige leer- en werkomgeving wordt aangeboden, waar docenten en leerlingen elkaar goed kennen. Deze decentrale organisatie en de grote betrokkenheid van de medewerkers bieden bij uitstek ruimte voor veiligheid en individuele talentontplooiing bij zowel medewerkers als bij onze leerlingen.

You are:

• An enthusiastic and inspiring, fully qualified teacher of English language and literature, who is an expert in English and has ample knowledge of teaching methodologies. (Cambridge Proficiency or native speaker).
• An experienced teacher with a thorough knowledge of formative assessment and who is able to monitor the learning process of our pupils and to provide the pupils with the required feedback in order to meet their educational goals, in which tailor-made coaching plays a pivotal role.
• A figurehead, who is meaningful in the pedagogical relationship with pupils and in the role of coach, mentor and role model, both during the regular lessons and outside of them
• A teacher who is experienced in teaching pupils with special needs, in particular, the highly gifted and talented, sometimes twice-exceptional, pupils, by setting up tailor-made teaching programmes in which the possibilities of accelerating, compacting and enriching are explored.
• A teacher who is involved and visible in the school, a cooperative person who is willing to work closely together within the English section, the department and in other committees.
• A teacher who takes personal development seriously and who is willing to play an important role in an organisation in which we are learning together.
• A person who is prepared to be involved in a Christian school with all that that entails.
